We are the Environment Agency. We work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make a difference to people and businesses who are affected by flood risk now and in the future. We are looking for a highly motivated Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Officer to join two of the Kent South London and East Sussex (KSLES) Asset Performance teams. The two teams are in the local river catchments of Mole and South London (MSL), and Medway and North Kent (MNK). The work you do will help make a better place for people and wildlife.

The role attracts a variety of work, but key responsibilities will include:

  • Data and information management
  • Contract management
  • Planning and monitoring progress of work programmes
  • External engagement with customers to communicate our work, and develop relationships
  • Regular travel to meet with partners and undertake site visits

The opportunity to participate in out of hours incidents as part of a standby rota in our incident response management

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

Asset Performance teams are asset managers covering large geographical river catchments and coastlines. We are responsible for the inspection, survey, assessment, maintenance, and operation of FCRM assets to reduce flood risk to people and property.

We take a flexible approach to work so there is opportunity to work from home, from the local office or depot and in the field on site visits.

Experience/skills required

The following skills and experience are required:

  • A qualification or experience in engineering / water / environmental or related would be beneficial
  • Analytical skills
  • Data management
  • Competent using IT and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Build effective working relationships
  • Team working skills
  • Dedicated to progressing your own development

The following qualities/experience would also be desirable but not essential:

  • Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management
  • Knowledge of asset management
  • Knowledge of health and safety in construction
  • Experience of working with customers which include members of the public, consultants & contractors
  • ArcGIS skills and an understanding of using outputs from flood risk models
