At Novus, we have a great opportunity to join the education team at HMYOI Cookham Wood as a Learning Support Practitioner on a permanent full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

What the role entails

As a Learning Support Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing support to men to help them to identify and access their education goals and make good progress. You will be required to set targets to help them with their learning plans and in addition, you will write learning support plans and assist teachers with strategies to support inclusion across the curriculum.

What we need from you

To be successful in the role of Learning Support Practitioner, you will need:

  • To understand how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience
  • To have a track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills
  • Maths and English at level 2
  • Hold or be willing to work towards a level 2 or 3 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners within an agreed timescale.
  • Vibrant with high expectations of themselves and students
  • Passionate about learning
  • Caring and patient
  • Conscientious with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work as part of a wider team.
  • Ambitious for their own professional and career development
  • Able to motivate and enthuse students through a commitment to equal opportunities, regardless of background, Special Educational Needs, or prior attainment.
